Children get creative with creatures at Woodhorn

Children got their paints out and their hands dirty creating animal-based art at a free workshop during the weekend.

Artist Paul Merrick was on hand at Woodhorn Colliery museum to help the children create an art installation inspired by the fascinating historic posters in the Woodhorn's Davison collection.

The museum near Ashington houses a range of exhibitions connected to Northumberland .

It is currently showing a collection of paintings by the Ashington Group - the 'Pitmen Painters' immortalised in a play by Lee Hall, which is taking the North East and now London by storm.
