Newcastle Eagles swoop into Middle School
A local Middle School enjoyed a morning off from regular lessons when the Newcastle Eagles swooped in.
Hirst Park Middle School pupils in Ashington endured a day spent looking upwards as Newcastle's number one basketball team were welcomed into school. and they towered above both students and teachers.
As well as learning new techniques on the court and participating in a fast paced hoop shooting exercise, there was classroom based activities based on healthy eating, the ill effects of smoking and the benefits of exercise.
Year 5 Pupil Reiss Elliott enjoyed their visit and was the envy of the whole year group when he won himself an exclusive new ball. He said: "Playing basketball was my favourite part of the day! I won an NBA basketball after bouncing the ball and clapping in between each bounce. I also scored quite a few baskets!"
The enthusiasm of the Eagles players had a positive impact on all those in attendance and their role model status ensured that the children listened; not just at advice on how to score a three pointer or how to avoid a double dribble, but to the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
They also distributed free tickets to all the students, leaving the teachers long faced. They'll just have to stay at home and Teen Wolf instead.

This should of course read 'They'll just have to stay at home and watch Teen Wolf instead.' No blogger of the year award coming my way.
