Ashington motorists warned of road delays

Posted by The Journal on Mar 5, 10 09:40 AM in News

Drivers have been warned to expect delays when road improvement work starts in Northumberland next week.

The resurfacing work, which will be carried out on the A196 Blackclose Bank near Ashington, is scheduled to start on Monday and take about eight days to complete.

The road will stay open throughout and traffic will be managed by signal controls and stop and go boards.

Surfacing work around the local level crossing will be carried out over
the weekend, when trains aren't running.

Letters have been sent to local residents and businesses informing them of the section of road that will be affected.

Those living and working in the vicinity will still be able to access their properties.

Coun Alan Armstrong, county council executive member for highways and transport, said: "Although delays are to be expected, we aim to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

"We would encourage people who use this road to leave extra travel time during this week. and we apologise for any inconvenience this will cause."

We'd like to hear from you.
