Chance to Tri a Triathlon in Ashington

Posted by The Journal on Jan 20, 10 02:28 PM in Sport

Looking for a new sport to try in 2010? Then why not try a triathlon!

British Triathlon is launching the Tri A Triathlon campaign across Northumberland next month with the aim of encouraging more people to take up the sport, which consists of cycling, swimming and running.

Taster sessions will be staged at Ashington Leisure Centre on February 27 and March 20, Druridge Bay Country Park on April 17 and the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, Woodhorn, on May 15 (all starting at midday).

The programme will be led by British Traithlon coaches, with sessions catered to suit individual fitness, goals and lifestyle.

Sessions will cover over a mixture of swimming, cycling and running, and participants can choose to do all three disciplines or just one or two of the activities. Those involved can also come along with friends and train together, hopefully with the aim of taking part in a mini-triathlon event this summer in the region.

They can even enter a triathlon as a team event - with one swimming, one cycling and one running.

Sessions, which are open to anyone aged over 14, are £5 each or £18 for all four.
