Ashington Lions hope for bumper turnout for Boxing Day charity dip
Intrepid fundraisers are being sought for a charity plunge into the icy cold North Sea on Boxing Day.
Lions Club officials in Ashington are hoping for another bumper turn-out for their annual festive dip in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, at 11am on Saturday December 26.
Over the years the fancy dress event has raised many thousands of pounds for local good causes and community projects.
Tea, coffee and soup will be provided for all participants at this year's event at Newbiggin Sailing Club's headquarters on the village seafront.
Dippers can get fundraising sponsorship forms from Al's Superstore in Ashington or at the Lionesses' Club Tuesday coffee mornings held from 9am to noon at the Lions Den behind the town's YMCA building.
They can raise funds for the Lions' chosen local charities or use some of the money they raise for their own nominated good causes.
Fancy dress is optional on the day but there will be a prize for the best costume, and all dippers will receive certificates and medals.
Ashington Lions Club is always looking to recruit new members to help with its work for the local community. Anyone interested is asked to call the secretary on 07783 115384.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos to northumberland@ncjmedia.co.uk
