Ashington karate kids are medal winners
Eight of Ashington Karate Club's 14-strong squad claimed medals at the northern regional competition at Sunderland University.
The students, aged between 10 and 21, were up against competitors from across the north of England including Leeds, Liverpool and Sunderland.
MEDAL WINNERS - senior women's kata: Tanya Hopper (third). Senior male kata: David Wright (first).
Children's kata (dan grade): Daniel Lumb (second ), Daniel Smart (third ), Rhys Waite (fourth). Up to first kyu: Kyle Duddridge (third).
Girls kumite 10-11 years: Maya Burns (third).
Junior team kata (under-16): Ashington A's Sarah Clow, Daniel Lumb and Daniel Smart (first for for the third year in a row), Ashington B's Kyle Duddridge, Dylan Gibson and Alex Ralph (fourth.
Ashington Karate club train on a Saturday from 10.00-11.30.
