Ashington break new ground in Northern League

Posted by The Journal on Oct 21, 09 09:09 AM in Sport

Ashington moved into third place - their highest rating for some considerable time - in the Skilltrainingltd Northern League when they defeated West Allotment Celtic at Woodhorn Lane.

It was not until the hour that Robbie Cockburn broke the deadlock as he out-jumped goalkeeper Chris Bannon to head home. The Colliers sealed victory when Gareth Bainbridge scored with a direct free-kick from just outside the penalty area.

Elsewhere, Whitley Bay conceded their first points of the season at Hillheads when Bedlington Terriers fully deserved to end 1-1.

We'd like to hear from you.
