Wansbeck business successes to be celebrated

Posted by The Journal on Sep 12, 09 12:35 PM in News

Hundreds of people will gather later this month to celebrate the achievements of businesses in a former Northumberland coal mining stronghold.

The third Rio Tinto Alcan Wansbeck Business Awards will be held at Merchant Court on Ashington's North Seaton industrial estate on Thursday September 24.

Earlier this year Wansbeck was named the most enterprising place in the North East in the prestigious Enterprising Britain competition.

Reflecting the growth of enterprise in the district, 18 companies entered the New Business of the Year Award - one of 11 which will be presented on the night.

Organisers have also introduced a new category, the Wansbeck Spirit of Enterprise Award, to recognise the achievements of other new businesses which have started trading in the past few months.

Ken Hastie , manager of the Wansbeck Business Forum, said: "The standard of entries has been exceptionally high this year.

"This has been an extraordinary year for the business community in Wansbeck. Despite the recession there are dozens of businesses who are achieving great things. The Wansbeck Business Awards are a fitting way to recognise them.''

We'd like to hear from you.
