Police appeal for witnesses to Ashington attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked in Ashington.

The 24-year-old victim was walking in Myrtle Street, near to the Iceland supermarket, when he became involved in an argument with another man. He was then approached from behind and assaulted.

The offender fled the scene and the injured man attended hospital where he received treatment for hand and neck injuries.

The attack happened at some time between midnight and 1.20am, on Saturday August 5.

Neighbourhood Insp Richard Yeats said: "I want to reassure people this wasn't a random attack and inquiries are ongoing to trace the man responsible."
