Bothal Church open to the public this week
A church raising funds to repair its ancient roof is open to the public this week.
The nave roof at St Andrew's Church, Bothal, Northumberland, dates back to the 14th century but requires significant conservation over the next two years.
An appeal was launched to raise funds with a target of ã65,000. So far nearly ã55,000 has been collected with nearly half provided by English Heritage.
Grants have also come from Northumberland County Council, the former Wansbeck District Council, the Wansbeck "YOU decide" Participatory Budgeting Programme and the Northumbria Historic Churches Trust.
The church congregation has also raised ã3,000 in just over 12 months.
St Andrews is participating in the Northumberland Heritage Open Days and will be open from tomorrow until Sunday, between 11am and 4pm.
In addition to the church, Bothal Castle is open on Sunday. Any funds raised through the open days will go to the roof appeal.
The Rev John Park, pictured, said: "We've done well so far but are not there yet and any funds raised this week through our participation in the Northumberland Heritage Open Days will go towards this."
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos to northumberland@ncjmedia.co.uk
