Praise for Ashington graduate's theatre company

A theatre company, founded by a Northumberland performing arts graduate, is getting a raft of four-star praise at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Sell a Door Theatre Company was established by 22-year-old Phillip Rowntree, from Ashington and four fellow graduates from Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts last year, when they made their Fringe debut with a small play.

This year, they decided to up the ante when it came to ambition and took four productions to the internationally renowned festival.

So far three out of the four productions: By Order of Ignorance; Falsettoland and Six Ways have opened.

And if the rave reviews they have received so far are anything to go by, it's looking like their decision to err on the side of ambition, was a very good one.

"We're exhausted , but loving it," said Phillip yesterday morning, taking a break from handing out promotional flyers in the city.

"We've been absolutely thrilled with the response and the reviews we've been getting. It has been fantastic." The last of the Sell a Door productions will be their take on Newcastle writer Lee Hall's play B****cks and will open for the last week of August.
