Fire at Ashington takeaway

Posted by The Journal on Aug 5, 09 12:21 PM in News

Firefighters had to deal with a ruptured gas pipe when they were called to a blaze outside a Chinese takeaway.

A fire crew from Ashington went to the Thornton kitchen in North Seaton just after 2am today. They found flames licking the shutters at the front of the premises and quickly put them out. There was no damage inside.

A Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We put the fire out and tried to block up the gas pipe as best we could and wait for the gas board engineers to come. We don't know what the cause of the blaze was.''

We'd like to hear from you.
