Ashington vicar looks for wedding couple

Posted by The Journal on Aug 6, 09 12:10 PM in News

A wedding organiser's nightmare has befallen a North East vicar.

The Rev Barry Welch has set aside his church, Trinity Church in Ashington, for the wedding of a mystery couple on September 12.

But two things are now preying on his mind - one is that the couple will turn up on the day after failing to complete the necessary paperwork.

The other is that, if they do, he will have to tell them he can't marry them.

Around the beginning of this year the couple called in to see the Rev Welch, booked their date to tie the knot and gave him £85 deposit.

He gave them a form to complete and return and took a contact telephone number but no names. When he rang the number recently he was shocked to discover it had been disconnected.

And because the form has never been returned he has no way of contacting the couple. He said: "It is a nightmare. I have never come across anything like it before.''

The Rev Welch is appealing for the couple to contact him on 01670 812137.

We'd like to hear from you.
