Wansbeck in high-scoring netball encounter
High-scoring was the norm during the weekend's netball fixtures in the Northumberland County Netball Summer League.
Morpeth A clashed with their Wansbeck counterparts in Division One and won 40-25. Wansbeck got off to a flyer, taking an early lead of 6-1 in the first quarter, but Morpeth came out fighting in the next quarter to even things up.
Morpeth began to pull away in the second half as Wansbeck began to make mistakes.
In Division Two, Bedlington had a 41-15 win over Croftway A. Amble A and Astley B also scored freely, with Astley taking the game 31-19.
In Division Three, Berwick beat Morpeth B 28-18, while in Division Four Astley D lost out 29-18 to Wansbeck C, meaning Wansbeck maintained their 100% record.
It was a slow start by Wansbeck as both teams were evenly balanced in the first half.
Gradually Wansbeck started to pull away as they picked up loose balls in mid court, coupled with well-timed interceptions by Angela Rudd.
This was a good win for Wansbeck, although Astley made them work for their points.
Boulmer won the other game, 34-19 against Amble B. In Division Five, it was a lower-scoring affair when Wansbeck D beat Prudhoe D 17-7.
This was an excellent win for a mainly young Wansbeck side.
Many of the girls play in the Junior League and have gained valuable experience playing in the Ladies League.
As well as taking their chances, Wansbeck also managed to keep Prudhoe's score down and stopped their opponents from taking many points from this match.
