Wansbeck Hospital baby unit backed by students
Students have been showing their support to a Northumberland special care baby unit.
Wansbeck General Hospital's special care baby unit received a donation of ã250 from students at Northumberland College.
The students on the adult extended education enterprise course wanted to support the unit because they all know someone who has benefited from it.
Since last September, the students have raised the money through a series of activities, including producing and selling calendars and Easter eggs and holding a quiz.
Helen Davies, a learning support assistant at the college, said: "Everybody in the group knows someone whose baby has had to use the unit at some point so it is something which is close to their hearts.
"The students were extremely enthusiastic about the project and really enjoyed raising the money."
They presented the money to the unit, run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and George Brooks, advanced neonatal practitioner, accepted the cheque.
He said: "We are delighted to receive this donation and touched that the students chose to raise money for the unit. It will be used to help babies who need extra care."
The money is to go towards the cost of buying a new infusion pump for the unit.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos to northumberland@ncjmedia.co.uk
