Rain again intervenes at Ashington match
Shotley Bridge were strongly placed to keep the pressure on Swalwell at the top in their game against Ashington in the Wellstream Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League, but their victory parade was rained upon in frustrating fashion.
Stephen Boyd (71) and Neil Wood (53) did an excellent job for Ashington as the visitors posted a challenging 197-7.
But, with Peter Collingwood (54) and Phil Carlin (51no) having done the donkey work in taking their side to 164-2, a sudden downpour ended the game and cost the Bridge nine precious points.
Sacriston's great run of results came to a juddering halt against top dogs Swalwell as the champions cruised to a six-wicket home win.
Ian Pattison and Gary Johnson put the Sacriston batters through the mill and none of the first eight could make it to double figures. Pattison ended with a return of 5-19 from 10 overs, and Johnson's figures were 3-19 from his six as Sacriston crumbled to 66 all out in just 25.5 overs.
Melvyn Betts managed to strike a couple of blows for the visitors but, with Lloyd Anderson seeing the job through with an unbeaten 29, the game was ended in the 21st over as the leaders put some distance in the table between themselves and their beaten opponents.
Ryton's troubles at the foot of the table were compounded by Percy Main, who polished them off quickly by six wickets. Mohtashim Ali was the destroyer, taking 5-8 to reduce Ryton to 80 all out, and then carrying his bat for 46 to steer the Main men home.
Morpeth picked up their sixth win of the season, defeating Benwell and Walbottle by 52 runs to leave their opponents in the relegation zone. Jonny Craigs (73) and Chris Reagan (5 for 25) were the Morpeth match winners.
The Lintz (136-5) versus Annfield Plain (174) contest was just bubbling up to an exciting finish when rain again intervened, and Tynedale's home match with Leadgate ended with the visitors clinging on at 146-9 in reply to 181- 8.
