A patriotic party celebrated the work of care centres.

St John Ambulance threw a red, white and blue-themed party to bring together staff and users from its three day centres in Northumberland.

The charity, best known for providing first aid, say the centres in Ashington, Berwick and Shiremoor have been a vital source of support for vulnerable people.

Sharon Scott, manager at the Ashington centre, said: "The three centres are a real success. Our day centres are used by adults who, for various reasons, find it hard to get out and about on their own.

"Many live alone and without their regular days with us some wouldn't see a soul from one week to the next.

"Our main objective is to improve lives, for many the main benefit is good company and the friendships that are forged. That is absolutely priceless."

At the party, held in the Lynemouth Institute, Lynemouth, guests were treated to a four-course meal and entertainment.
