Have a say on Northumberland car parking policy
Residents, businesses and organisations across Northumberland are being asked to have their say on a major review which will shape future car parking policy in the county.
County council bosses are undertaking the review in a bid to devise suitable management arrangements for all of the car parks that it owns or manages.
The exercise will also help county councillors decide whether to leave car parking free in Blyth Valley and Wansbeck, or introduce charges similar to those currently facing motorists in towns such as Berwick, Alnwick, Hexham and Morpeth.
The council hopes the review will help it achieve a satisfactory balance of the use and cost of public parking, particularly between local users, commuters and seasonal visitors in different areas.
The first step is to ask local people, businesses and community representatives for their views are on the key principles of car parking policy through a questionnaire.
Yesterday Coun Alan Armstrong, executive member for highways and transport at the county council, said: "I would urge as many people as possible to express their views. We are very aware that there are currently different policies across the county, and we want to establish a single framework within which local conditions in each area can be considered objectively."
The questionnaire is being sent to a wide range of organisations, and is also available for residents to complete at customer information centres and on the council website - www.northumberland.gov.uk - from next week.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos to northumberland@ncjmedia.co.uk
