Activities on offer for youngsters in Ashington

Posted by The Journal on Jul 29, 09 12:08 PM in News

A programme of summer fun is being arranged for youngsters.

Activities in Ashington will include youth clubs, cricket, water polo, beach games, tennis, badminton, racketball, bike clubs, street games, wave boarding, archery, golf, trampolining, dancing, deck sessions and dodgeball.

Ashington police neighbourhood inspector Richard Yeats said: "Staff from local youth organisations have produced a series of activities over the next two months to ensure that every child in the local community is catered for.

"This is especially important over the summer holidays when young people are looking for activities to keep them occupied.

"We fully support this initiative as it is what the parents and children of Ashington, Newbiggin, Ellington, Linton and Lynemouth have asked for."

A variety of organisations are working together to provide the programme of events.

They include Positive Futures, Hirst Youth Services, Hirst Welfare and Coalfields, Sustrans, Sports Development and Community Safety Officers.

Anyone interested can pick up a free event programme at Ashington Police Station, Lintonville Terrace, which is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

We'd like to hear from you.
