Wansbeck Homes signs up to crime scheme

Posted by The Journal on Jun 24, 09 12:04 PM in News

A housing company has signed up to a crime-busting scheme.

Wansbeck Homes have bought 42 Neighbourhood Watch signs in order to support the scheme in Ashington.

PC Garry Smith, of Ashington's neighbourhood policing team, said: "In Newbiggin the scheme works very well and has led to emerging issues being identified at an early stage, helping us to stamp out nuisance behaviour.

"There was a report of nuisance motorbikes in the vicinity of the golf club at Newbiggin.

"We identified those involved, spoke to them about the problems they were causing residents and uplifted a number of the bikes from those owners who persisted in causing a disruption."

Stewart Sexton, enforcement officer for Wansbeck Homes, said: "We aim to improve communities and make them safer by supporting residents."
