Thieves raided six cars during an overnight crime spree .

Police are appealing for witnesses after the parked cars were broken into in Ashington.

All the thefts occurred between around 8pm on Wednesday, June 17 and 6am on Thursday, June 18, in the Ascot Drive, Oatfield Close, Goodwood Court and Greencroft areas of the town.

Items taken included CD players and satellite navigation systems.

Neighbourhood Inspector David Simpson said: "Crimes like this are mindless and investigations are underway to track down those responsible.

"I'd always advise car owners to take sat navs, cd players and any electrical items like ipods out of their cars and into the house with them. Always lock your car, even if you're leaving it for a short time and think about marking equipment like your sat nav with a UV pen.

"I'd appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious on Wednesday night or who may have seen anyone hanging around in the area to contact police with information."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police in Ashington on 03456 043 043ext 61632or the independent charity Crimestoppers on0800 555 111.

We'd like to hear from you.
