Budding Northumberland entrepreneurs get ready to pitch ideas
Budding entrepreneurs from 12 Northumberland schools are preparing to pitch their ideas to judges in a contest which combines Dragons' Den with The Apprentice.
The high school students will be competing at the Alnwick Garden Pavilion tomorrow evening in the final of the Northumberland Enterprise Learning Network challenge for school-based companies.
The teams will champion their individual business ventures in a range of categories to a judging panel including Garden managing director Mike Dukes and County Durham estate agent and recent Apprentice contestant, Philip Taylor.
The finalists are representing high schools in Ashington, Seaton Delaval, Bedlington, Berwick, Cramlington, Alnwick, Haydon Bridge, Morpeth, Ponteland, Prudhoe and Hexham.
Awards will be presented for most innovative student business, best presentation, most financially-sound business, best business team, most environmentally friendly venture, most effectively marketed and the overall winner, best student business.
Stephen Prandle, headteacher of Ponteland High School, said: "This event is set to be a true showcase of the business and creative talent that we have in schools throughout Northumberland.
"The variety of school businesses that have been shortlisted is very inspiring. Those pupils taking part in such projects are learning valuable skills that will be of use to them now and in their future careers."
