Northumberland Miners' PicnicA family fun day will form the centrepiece when an annual celebration of Northumberland's proud coal mining heritage is held at the weekend.

The Woodhorn Museum and Archives Centre near Ashington will host Saturday's Northumberland Miners' Picnic, and organisers are hoping for good weather for a packed programme of entertainment.

Throughout the day there will be children's craft activities, traditional fairground rides and an indoor craft fair with everything from soap and socks to jam and jewellery.

Music and dance entertainment will be provided by ceilidh band The Cyber Pitmen, the Monkseaton Morrismen, singing ensemble Beeswing and Wansbeck's Ashington Colliery Band.

Woodhorn events and exhibitions officer, Liz Ritson, said: "We expect at least a couple of thousand visitors to come along on Saturday, so there should be a wonderful family atmosphere.''

We'd like to hear from you.
