Zoe Gilby Quartet hitting Ashington Jazz Club
Jazz lovers are in for a treat as the Zoe Gilby Quartet will be playing in Northumberland.
Daughter of jazz trumpeter Mike Gilby, Zoe will be bringing her wide repertoire of standards to Ashington Jazz Club, where her father was resident for many years with the River City Jazzmen.
Zoë Gilby grew up in the North East of England in a household bursting with jazz, before leaving the North East social club scene and embarked on her jazz career. Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Carmen McRae were early influences.
She started her professional career as vocalist in a social club band which toured the North East. Her 21st birthday present was a place at the Fiona Duncan Vocal Jazz Workshop in Glasgow, which greatly helped her find her niche.
She has performed in local restaurants, bars, festivals and jazz clubs, and Zoë now performs at major venues throughout the country and has appeared at Ronnie Scott's Club in London.
Her debut album, Now That I am Real, has met with good reviews. The quartet will perform at Ashington Jazz Club at The Elephant pub at 8.30 pm on Wednesday June 3.
The River City Jazzmen return to the same venue on Wednesday July 8 with guest trumpeter Ray Harley.
