Northumberland credit union gets cash boost

An organisation more used to helping hard-pressed families has itself had an unexpected cash boost.

The Ashington and Blyth-based Credit Union for South East Northumberland has won £50 after winning a draw run by a community radio group.

The South Northumberland Radio Group (SNRG) recently conducted an online survey among organisations in Wansbeck to ascertain interest in a local community radio station.

From all the groups and organisations taking part, the credit union's name was drawn from the hat.

Manager Susan Lonsdale: "We are delighted to win the award, which will go towards costs of running the credit union. We are a local service for local people and it would be great if we were able to promote what we do through an accessible local radio service."

SNRG chairman Colin Heathcote said: "Helping to promote the activities and facilities of community organisations such as the Credit Union for South East Northumberland is the essence of what a local radio service can offer.

"We look forward to being able to broadcast their message to a wider audience."

We'd like to hear from you.
