Linton and Woodhorn Social Club win in Morpeth Sunday League
The end of the season is coming down to the wire as both the teams vying for the title in Morpeth Sunday League Division One now have just one game remaining.
Lynemouth have put themselves in pole position following an emphatic 8-0 win over North Seaton Elephant. The win puts them ahead on goal difference, with a five goal advantage over Traveller's Rest, Choppington.
Marc Richardson (2), Andrew Spratt (2), Adam Kent (2), Andrew Johnson and David Brown all got on the scoresheet to take Lynemouth back to the summit.
Amble Pier 81 stay in third place, but they suffered a setback as they lost 6-2 at home to Stobhill Social Club. Josh Hay and Paul White scored for the hosts, but a hat-trick from Jonathan Rees, a brace from Ashley McAlpine and a Michael Scott strike won it for Stobhill.
Linton and Woodhorn SC won by the same score at home to Pegswood Ex-Services. Michael Freathy bagged three, and further goals came from Patrice Butters, David Jones and Ryan Lonsdale for the victors. Steven Dolan scored twice for Pegswood. Red Row Brick Club warmed up for next week's Lewin Cup final with a 3-0 win over Bedlington Northumberland Arms. Stuart Marshall, Joe Moscrop and an own goal did it for Red Row.
Morpeth Waterford Lodge remain top of Division Two, but the sides behind them are closing in after they were beaten by promotion rivals Blackthorn Rovers. Lenny Lansbury netted for the Waterford, but goals from Craig Robinson (2) and Dean Oliver earned Rovers a 3-1 win.
Castington beat East Chevington to stay second in the table. Dylan Russell registered twice, along with single strikes from John Paxton, Kirk Sherlock, Marcus Miller and John Smyllie. Bedlington Station have enjoyed a good run of form, and maintained it with a 3-1 win over Wansbeck Riverside Social Club. David Gibson, Sean Taggart and David Long scored for the Station, with Daniel Halliday replying for the Riverside.
Champions Bedlington Station Railway suffered their first defeat of the season in the penultimate league game in Division Three, as North End Trap rounded off their league campaign in style. The Trap won 4-2 with goals from Craig Keen and Graham Todd, with two apiece. Mark Gadsby and Scott Barclay scored for the Railway.
