Ashington golfer is unfazed by slump

Kenneth FerrieDouble European Tour winner Kenneth Ferrie goes into the BMW Italian Open in Torino today yet to win any money this season.

Having played six of the 21 events, the Ashington golfer has yet to make a halfway cut or break 70 and is 709th in the world.

"I'm past the point of getting angry and annoyed. There's nothing I can do - I am trying my best, I'm working harder than I ever have, I feel fit, I feel happy, everything's good," said the 30-year-old.

Ferrie's Tour exemption does not run out until the end of next year and he has more than £2m in career earnings. He added: "It's just one of those things you can't put your finger on. I'm hitting it all right, but my bad shots are costing me doubles.

"My schedule's been stop-start, but I'm playing pretty much every week now and hopefully that will help to get things moving. We've got courses coming up now that I know and like, such as Wentworth and Loch Lomond. I enjoy the bigger events."

As an ambassador for the Marie Curie cancer charity at a Newcastle hospice, Ferrie has no difficulty putting his situation into perspective.
