Ashington Booze Brothers stunned by 19-0 defeat in Morpeth Sunday League

In Division One of the Morpeth Sunday League, Lynemouth have all but sewn up the league title with an unbelievable 19-0 hammering of Ashington Booze Brothers.

Marc Richardson (6), Andy Spratt (4), Antony Wade (3), John Ramm (2), Andrew Johnson (2), David Brown and Gareth Rees were all on target. Traveller's Rest Choppington can still draw level on points with their last game of the season next week, but Lynemouth have a goal difference which is twenty four more than their rivals.

Pegswood Ex-Services finished off their season with three points after a Lee McAndrew strike earned them a 1-0 win over Amble Pier 81. Linton and Woodhorn Social Club also rounded off their campaign with a win with a 3-2 success at Stobhill Social Club. Michael Scott and Ashley McAlpine scored for Stobhill, but a brace from Michael Freathy and a Richard Morris goal won it for the visitors.

In Division Two, Morpeth Waterford Lodge lost for the second game in a row, but they remain top of the division and need only a point to guarantee the title in their final game next week.

They lost 2-1 to East Chevington, who saw David Shepherd and Jonny Shepherd notch, while John Farrell replied for the Waterford. The Waterford meet Castington in their final fixture, and it is only one of those two teams that can pick up the trophy. If Castington win, they will finish top, while the Waterford can afford a draw.

Bedlington Barrington Arms are now in third spot, and could finish second if the results in the final games go their way although goal difference makes it improbable. They beat Blackthorn Rovers 6-2, which ended their visitors' title hopes. Mark Race and Craig Robinson scored for Rovers, but David Scott, Steven Scott, Kevin Dodds, Dylan Williamson, Richie Hay and Colin Madigan all scored to win it for the Arms.

Ellington enjoyed a 4-2 win at Bedlington Station to finish their season, with goals from Andy Neill (3) and Shaun Dodds. Shaun Taggart bagged a brace for the Station.

In Division Three, Bomarsund Social Club won 4-1 at Felton with goals from Kris Grey (2), Steven Young and Ross Muter. Tony Brown scored for Felton. Bomarsund go into their final game of the season next week against division champions Bedlington Station Railway needing a point to finish runners-up.

Meanwhile, Traveller's Rest Choppington won an entertaining and penalty-strewn Lewin Cup Final as they overcame Red Row Brick Club 5-3.

The Traveller's started off the better of the two Morpeth Sunday League sides, and took the lead after five minutes as Damien Mullen, who was also man of the match, buried a chance.

They looked comfortable for most of the remainder of the half, but Red Row looked to have found a way back into it when Shaun Black was fouled in the penalty area. However, the resulting spot-kick was lifted over the bar, and the Traveller's went into half time a goal to the good.

Red Row were then made to pay for missing the penalty when they conceded a penalty after only two minutes of the second half, which Stephen Young converted to double the lead. Simon Kilpatrick then extended his side's advantage with a strike from the edge of the area after 54 minutes.

Anyone thinking the game was over at 3-0 was mistaken as Red Row dragged themselves back into the game, captain Ian Common finishing off a move with a fine strike into the bottom corner.

Red Row were then awarded another penalty, minutes after an earlier appeal was turned down. A change of penalty-taker saw Stuart Marshall make no mistake and bring the score back to 3-2 with quarter of an hour remaining.

Jonathan Young, playing at full-back for the Traveller's, popped up in the opposing area to make it 4-2 with ten minutes remaining, and Stephen Young added a fifth a minute later.

Red Row still weren't finished, however, but Ian Common's second of the game came with barely a minute remaining and the Traveller's saw the game out to claim the trophy.
