A 14-year-old has been raped in Northumberland, police have said.

The schoolgirl was attacked on Saturday, between 8.30pm and 9.15pm, when she was walking in Myrtle Street, Ashington.

She was interviewed by specialist officers and was able to give a description of her attacker.

He is described as around 23, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in, white with tanned skin, with close shaved brown hair and blue eyes.

He was wearing light blue jeans, brown shoes and a turquoise long-sleeved top. Following the attack he was seen walking away from the area and getting into a small silver or blue car in Alexandra Road.

Det Insp Steve Patrick, who is leading the investigation, said: ``We are doing everything we can to trace the man responsible for this attack and are following a number of lines of inquiry.

"However, I would urge anyone with information to come forward.

"Someone may have seen a man fitting this description either before or after the attack, or they may have seen a car being driven away from the scene."

Please contact police on 03456 043 043 and ask for Bedlington CID or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

We'd like to hear from you.
