Morpeth Sunday League round-up
East Chevington lifted the ACS Dobfar Cup following a 2-1 win over Morpeth Waterford Lodge.
As with last week's final, a late goal decided the game, and the winners came from a goal down to win. Lenny Lansbury put the Waterford in front on the half-hour mark with a smart finish, and his side held the lead until three minutes into the second half, when
Chevington leveled with a calmly dispatched penalty from Sean Palmer.
Both sides had chances to take the lead during the second half, but both goalkeepers made important saves to keep the scores level. The game was heading for extra time when Sean Palmer netted again with another well-taken goal to settle it.
Lynemouth have opened up a two point lead over their title rivals, whilst also having a game in hand in Division One.
Goals from Ben Johnson and Adam Kent gave them a 2-1 win over North Seaton Elephant, who saw Richie Hall on target.
Traveller's Rest, Choppington, who have led the division and looked to be taking the title fight to the wire, were held to a goalless draw by Amble Pier 81, who look sure to finish in third place.
Stobhill Social Club won at bottom club Ashington Booze Brothers, but were made to fight all the way, the game ending 5-4 to Stobhill.
Michael Scott bagged a hat-trick for Stobhill, with Carl Ellison and Glen Pearson also scoring. Gary Wallace also scored three for Booze Brothers, and Chad Miller added the other.
A goal from Ali Turvey handed Red Row Brick Club a 1-0 win at Linton and Woodhorn SC, whilst Bedlington Northumberland Arms and Pegswood Ex-Services finished 0-0.
Bedlington Barrington Arms recovered from last week's set-back to regain second position in Division Two.
They beat Castington 6-2 with goals from Dylan Williamson (2), Craig MacFadyen, Paul McGuire, Chris Hay and Gavin Dodds. Jason Flannery and Kieron Farrell scored for Castington.
Wansbeck Riverside SC enjoyed an emphatic 7-0 win over Ellington. Chris Martin struck four times, Graham Dawson added a brace and Patrick Spiers weighed in with a goal.
In Division Three, Bedlington Station Railway had already clinched the title with a midweek victory, and Liam Candlish scored a hat-trick to earn his side a 3-1 win over Base FC, Ashington to make it 16 wins from as many games. Stuart Arkle scored for Base.
North End Trap won 8-3 at home to Morpeth White Swan. Graham Todd helped himself to half the total, with Gary Todd, Craig Keen, Dave King and Daniel Dewson also on target for the Trap.
Felton won 10-3 at Ashington Hirst Industrial, with goals from Dale Kennedy (4), Scott McMullen (3), Alan Mahon, Kevin Elliott and Jon Snaith. Kris Allington, Daniel Allington and Darrell Towart scored for the Industrial. Amble Dock Hotel took maximum points with a 4-0 win over Morpeth Black Bull, courtesy of goals from Lee Hedley, David Smith, Stu Elliott and Matty Nicholls.
