Ashington neighbourhood scheme to expand

Posted by The Journal on Apr 29, 09 03:36 PM in School news

A crime-busting scheme is being expanded after proving a success.

The Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in Haydon Ward, Ashington, has one of the strongest memberships in the town.

Information gleaned from the community has already helped police identify youths responsible for disorderly behaviour in the area and over the past six months incidents of disorder have reduced.

Now a Haydon Ward Action Week is to be held on Saturday, May 16, at St Aidan's RC First School and Hawthorn First Schools, Haydon Road, Ashington.

Local MP Denis Murphy will launch the event.

Activities on the day will include: an army climbing wall; an army paint ball range; Fire Service demonstration; football five-a-side and a balloon clown.

We'd like to hear from you.
