Ashington Athletic lose important high-level clash
Joe Moscrop was the star player in Division One of the North Northumberland League when he put four past rivals Acklington Athletic.
A Ron Murray effort sealed a 5-0 win for Alnmouth as they kept up the pressure at the top of the division.
Berwick Town beat Ashington Athletic 3-2 in a vital top-of-the-table clash. Neil Wallace gave Ashington the lead but Stuart Payne equalised before half time. Mitchell Simpson then restored Berwick's lead but again Ashington equalised, this time through Robert Groves. A 75th minute goal from John Yule won it.
Lynemouth drew 1-1 with North Sunderland, Steven Campbell and Darren Soulsby getting the goals. Craster Rovers also drew, 3-3 with Rothbury. Rothbury took a two-goal through John Angus but David Hogg pulled one back. Richard Hooks restored the two goal advantage before half time but Willy Curry and Chris Gillon gave Craster a point.
Shilbottle beat Lowick United 2-1 through Andy Metcalfe and Alan Wallace either side of half time. Colin Young got Lowick's in the meantime.
Wooler came up with the best result of Division Two, winning 8-2 at Rothbury Reserves. But a halfway line lob from Darren Burnham actually gave Rothbury the lead. But before George Scott netted Rothbury's late consolation, Robert Shepherd scored four and Damien Hall, Paul Hardy, Lee Redpath and Jack Strangeways made up the Wooler total.
Springhill drew 1-1 with Lynemouth Reserves through Andrew Skelly and Tony Messenger, while unbeaten Alnwick Town Reserves beat Bamburgh Castle 3-2. Stephen Hogg gave Alnwick the lead but two Ryan Thompson goals saw Bamburgh ahead at half time. Alnwick then came back through Colin Bickerton and Danny Lillico.
In the Runciman Cup Preliminary Round, Hedgeley beat Berwick United Reserves in the second period of extra time through Stephen Shendon.
