Dance event in memory of tragic Ashington student
College students are holding a special dance event in memory of a popular teenager who died last year after battling leukaemia and a rare blood disease.
Sports science student Danny Petini, 18, passed away on New Year's Day 2008 surrounded by his family at his home in Hepscott Park near Morpeth.
He had been diagnosed with leukaemia some months earlier but had also contracted Haemophagocytic syndrome, a rare and little understood blood disorder.
Now students at the Northumberland College in Ashington, where Danny was studying, are holding a dance marathon in the sports hall tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.
Proceeds from the fundraising event will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he was treated.
It will feature a variety of different dance styles, with specialist instructors and inter-active martial art demonstrations. To help raise money there will be a raffle and students will be offering sports massages in return for a donation.
Dance for Dan has been promoted around the college and on social networking site Facebook. Danny's hobbies included karate and boxing, but he also loved dancing.
