Ashington Athletic lose out in Northumberland League
Springhill and Alnwick Town Reserves will battle it out for the Robson Cup after winning semi-finals at the weekend.
Springhill coped better with the conditions to beat Alnmouth United 3-0. Mark Reid gave the visitors a half-time lead while a Daniel Carey own goal and Andrew Skelly's third wrapped up the win. Alnwick beat Wooler 2-0 through Neil McFall and Stephen Hogg.
In the North Northumberland Division One, North Sunderland put in the performance of the day by scoring 12 at Acklington Athletic. Richard Lemon had given Acklington and 10th minute lead but Neil Macfarlane scored five, Carl Avery three, Steven Campbell two and there were single strikes for Frazer Tait and Anthony Brannigan in North Sunderland's dozen. A Chris McGilvery goal was scant consolation for Acklington.
Lynemough MW won 4-2 at Ashington Athletic through goals from Ross Muter, Ashley Smith, Gary Brotherton and Dean Short, while Berwick Town beat Shibottle CW 3-1. David Davison gave Shilbottle the lead but two from Stuart Payne and a Michael Antcliffe goal gave them the points.
Lowick United drew 2-2 with Alnmouth. Colin Young gave Lowick a first half lead with substitute James Swordy equalising after half-time with his first touch of the ball. Aaron Punton restored the Lowick lead but Swordy got his second to see the points shared.
In Division Two, Bamburgh Castle won 6-1 at Belford through a Steven Keers hat-trick, two from Ryan Thompson and a Chris Hay goal. Stuart Keys had given Belford an early lead.
And there was a 2-2 draw between Hedgeley Rovers and Berwick United Reserves. Two goals from Andrew Drinkeld gave Hedgeley a half-time lead but replies from Sandro de Oliveira and Michael Gray meant honours were even.
