Last chance for Ashington youths
Nearly 40 young people from the Ashington area have agreed to "behave or be targeted" by Northumbria Police.
Ashington's neighbourhood police team have worked with Wansbeck Council's community safety and tenancy enforcement teams to issue 38 Acceptable Behaviour Agreements (ABAs), where youths agree a set of conditions to behave or face further action.
Police are employing a "three strike" rule with youths that sees them referred to the team if they are caught committing anti-social behaviour, graffiti, underage drinking or public order offences three or more times in as many months.
The initiative forms part of the area command's campaign to drive down crime across the county.
Ashington Neighbourhood Inspector Richard Yeats said: "Anti-social behaviour reduced by over 30% over the past month which can be attributed to the current enforcement work through ABAs and additional work with partners in the Ashington area.
"This is a continuing commitment to the area following the Hirst week of action which acted as a launch pad for local improvements."
