Northumbria Police hold 39 after series of dawn raids
Dozens more suspects have been arrested in a series of police raids as a crackdown continues on rising crime in Northumberland.
Northumbria Police arrested 39 in 10 separate dawn raids on addresses across the county last week.
More than 100 officers took part in the high-profile operation, which continued the Northumberland Area Command's major initiative to drive down crime and address an increase in crime last summer.
Eighteen people were arrested for offences relating to burglary and vehicle crime, five for drugs offences, 14 on outstanding warrants, one for a firearm offence and one for theft.
The raids were part of the force's Every Crime Counts initiative, which started in October and is aimed at reducing crime levels across the county.
Operations will continue over the coming weeks and months to tackle issues such as criminal damage, vehicle crime, burglary, violent crime and drugs offences.
Yesterday Chief Supt Kevin Lambert said the crackdown has already resulted in a fall in crime in Northumberland, and this hard work will continue.
"This week's activity has been a great success and action will continue over the coming months."
