Youths arrested over Ashington bag snatch

Two youths have been arrested after a woman had her purse snatched in broad daylight in a Northumberland town.

The incident happened as the 42-year-old victim walked along a lane between Station Road and Haldane Street in Ashington town centre at about 9.30am on Thursday.

She was approached from behind, and was knocked to the ground as her purse was snatched. The offenders made off on bicycles, leaving her shocked but not seriously hurt.

Two youths have been arrested in connection with the incident. One has been released on bail and the other is being interviewed by police.
