Raiders armed with a meat cleaver and a knife have robbed a Northumberland shop.

Two men threatened staff at Hirst General Dealers in Portia Street, Ashington, just before 8pm last night.

They stole an amount of cash before riding off on bicycles.

Shop workers were left shocked but uninjured following the robbery.

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information should call 03456 043 043.

We'd like to hear from you.
