Big scores but Ashington lose out
There were some high-scoring games in the North Northumberland League, with some closer than others.
In Division One, Acklington Athletic lost 4-3 to Rothbury. Goalless at half time, the game came to life as Chris McGuilvery and Paul Christianson gave Acklington a two goal lead.
Adam Hall and Neil Johnson then netted for Rothbury to level the game but a second Christianson goal restored Acklington's lead. Rothbury hit back with two late goals from Craig Sutton to take the points.
In the Bilclough Cup round two, Shilbottle won 4-0 at home to Rothbury Reserves. Shilbottle were too strong for their Second Division opponents as they completed a comfortable victory. Kyle Kennedy, Danny Lowes and David Davison gave them a half time lead with Davison scoring his second of the game during the second half.
Lynemouth stole the show with an 11-0 win over Wooler. A strong performance from Lynemouth saw them inflict a heavy defeat on their plucky opponents. Four up at half time, they then continued to score at regular intervals with Wooler only occasionally threatening on rare breakaways. Gary Brotherton netted a hat trick, Ross Muter and Thomas Brotherton netted two each with Ben Johnson, Adam Kent, John Bone and John Ramm all netting once.
North Sunderland beat visitors Springhill 5-0. A single Darren Thompson goal separated the teams at half time but after the interval the home team completed a comfortable win with further goals from Neil MacFarlane (2), Adam Nicol and Ross Stanton.
Berwick Town won 4-0 against away side Ashington Athletic. After a goalless first half Alan Jess gave Berwick the lead and after the visitors were reduced to ten men further goals from Sean Simpson, Andrew Gibson and Scott Pithe completed the win.
All other games were postponed.
