TEN people were arrested, six for suspected drink-driving, three for car theft and one for a breach of bail, on the first weekend of a Northumbria Police crackdown in Northumberland.

Police are using number plate recognition technology to target criminals using the roads as part of the area command's Every Crime Counts campaign.

Seven other people were issued with summons and 15 ordered to produce their driving documents.
