New youth room opened
Choysez, a local organisation working with young people, recently opened its 'Community Chillin' Room' thanks to a grant from the Volunteer Centre's Evolve Fund.

The fund is designed to promote participation and volunteering in young people up to the age of 25 from Wansbeck, and the ideas of Choysez students Daniel Wilson and Jasmine Clark, who applied for the funding, were brought to life to give other young people with Choysez a relaxed space to hang out in between activities.
They also hope to launch after-school clubs to give young people somewhere to go.
Before this funding the room was used for storage, but has now benefitted from a lick of paint, a new seating area, a TV and pool table to create a space the young people can call their own.
Jasmine commented, 'I helped apply for the fund and the Community Chillin' Room will be great for the after school club. It's mint!'
Mark Robertson, Youth Volunteering Development Officer with the Volunteer Centre, officially opened the room, and said, 'The Community Chillin' Room is an excellent example of what can be achieved by young people who are supported to develop their own ideas, which is one of the main principles of the fund.
Our grants panel is made up of local young people and they were really impressed with the effort that had been put into the bid. The resulting room shows that this effort has carried on all the way through.'
