New friend at hand for older people in Ashington

Posted by Simon Honeysett on Oct 16, 08 09:22 AM in News

OLDER people in Northumberland who have trouble speaking up for themselves or expressing their views can call on the help of a new ally.

Age Concern Northumberland has launched a special advocacy service to help over-50s to have their say. Funded by Comic Relief, the scheme provides a confidential, impartial and free service.

Joint coordinators Jane Ditchburn and Caroline Friend are passionate about giving older people the chance to be heard. Caroline said: "We may help to solve problems, write letters, attend appointments, lodge complaints, makecalls or liaise with other agencies."
