Forum set up on special needs

A forum has been set up to bring together parents and carers of children with special needs in Northumberland.

The Northumberland Parent, Carer and Professional Forum will meet three times a year, starting on October 23 in County Hall, Morpeth. Meetings will also be held in the west, north and central area of the county before each forum to give parents a chance to have their say.

Coun Simon Reed, the council's executive member for children's services, said: "The Council wants to deliver the best services for children with special needs that it possibly can. We can only do this in dialogue with the experts: parents and carers.

"We need their views on what is working well, and what we could be doing better. It's therefore really important that parents and carers come along to their locality meeting and have their voice heard."

The first local meetings will be held at Hexham Community Centre on September 18, Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington on September 22 and the Bell View Centre in Belford on September 24. All meetings are from 11.30am-2pm.

We'd like to hear from you.
