Yesterday the brother-in-law of a stab victim was charged with murder.

Gary Carr, 38, died after a row erupted into violence at his home in Oakland Terrace, Ashington, Northumberland, early on Sunday. He suffered a stab wound to the neck.

Malcolm Neary, 46, of Juliet Street in Ashington, is to appear before Bedlington magistrates today, charged with murder. Detective Chief Inspector Steve Binks, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a tragic waste of life.

"Mr Carr was a family man with two young sons and our sympathies are with the family."

Neighbours said they had earlier seen a body covered in a bag being wheeled out of the house on a trolley.

A neighbour in the street, who did not want to be named, said yesterday: "He was always friendly. He would say hello but I didn't know him to get into a conversation with.

"I think he worked at a care home."

And student Lewis Knapton, 18, said: "It was a bit of a shock when I found out.

"There's been loads of police here all day and forensics going in and out."

We'd like to hear from you.
