Ashington High Schools- A-level results
Ashington's two high schools enjoyed great A-level results today.

Andrew Michie, director of learning for Year 13 at Ashington Community High School Sports College, said: "It has been one of our best years yet with an overall past rate of 97.8%, which was up 10% on last year.
"Everyone is absolutely delighted as comes as a result of hard work by the students and staff."
Rob Kitching, headteacher, added: "This year we held extra coaching sessions with some students staying two hours after school and the results have reflected this."
Paul Ward, 18, gained A grades in French, German and English Language. The teenager who lives with his mother Francis in Garden City Villas, Ashington, will now go on to study French, German and Spanish at Durham University.
He said: "I was so happy with the results. I couldn't believe it as I was very nervous. I'm planning to celebrate by going out with friends later."
At Hirst High, maths whizz Daniel Finlay landed himself a place at Oxford University with three As in Maths, Further Maths and Business Studies as well as a B in French and a B at AS level in Spanish. Daniel, 18, from Ashington, was offered a place at St Ann's College, Oxford, on the strength of his success in his A levels and interviews at the university.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to studying Maths at Oxford. I want to become a teacher."
Lesley Craig, headteacher at Hirst High, said: "We are delighted for Daniel and the other students who have done so well this year."
The A to E grade pass rate was 90%. And the average point score per student increased from 548 last year to 611 this year.
Other top-scoring students today are Sandip Sanghera, who got A in English, B in History and C at ICT. She will now be studying Law at Newcastle University.
